📝 About Word Counter
Word Counter measures your text in real time as you type or paste. It shows five numbers side by side: total characters, characters without spaces, words, lines and the size in UTF-8 bytes. A Clear button empties the box when you’re ready to start over.
Character limits are everywhere — essays and cover letters, social media posts, meta descriptions for SEO, ad copy and SMS messages. Checking both “with spaces” and “without spaces” counts is especially useful because different forms and platforms define the limit differently. Words are counted by splitting on spaces, which suits English and other space-separated languages; for Korean, the character count is usually the figure that matters.
The byte count follows UTF-8, the encoding used by most websites and databases. English letters take one byte each, while Korean syllables take three, so a field with a byte limit fills up much faster in Korean. Characters are counted by Unicode code point, meaning some combined emoji may count as more than one. Your text never leaves the browser.

❓ FAQ
Are spaces and line breaks counted as characters?
Yes, in the total character count. The “without spaces” figure excludes all spaces, tabs and line breaks.
Why is the byte count bigger than the character count for Korean?
In UTF-8, each Korean syllable uses 3 bytes while English letters use 1. Some older systems use EUC-KR, where Korean takes 2 bytes, so results there may differ.
How are words counted?
Words are separated by spaces, tabs or line breaks. Hyphenated terms count as one word, and in Korean each space-separated chunk counts as one.
Is my text stored anywhere?
No. Counting happens in your browser and the text is not uploaded or saved.
