๐Ÿ“ About Convert Image

Convert Image changes a picture between the three most common web formats: JPG, PNG and WebP. You might need this when a website only accepts JPG, when you want a PNG for editing, or when you saved a WebP image from the web and an older program wonโ€™t open it.

Each format has its strengths. JPG uses lossy compression and is ideal for photos, producing small files but no transparency. PNG is lossless, so it keeps sharp edges in screenshots, logos and text graphics and supports transparent backgrounds, but photos saved as PNG can be very large. WebP, developed for the web, supports both lossy compression and transparency and is usually noticeably smaller than JPG or PNG at similar quality.

When converting to JPG, any transparent areas are filled with white. JPG and WebP output use a high quality setting, while PNG is saved losslessly. Converting a JPG to PNG wonโ€™t restore detail already lost to compression; it just stores the current image without further loss. Animated images are converted as a single still frame. Conversion runs in your browser, so files never leave your device.

โ“ FAQ

Which format should I choose?

Use JPG for photos, PNG for screenshots, logos or anything needing transparency, and WebP when you want small files for the web.

Why did the transparent background turn white?

JPG doesnโ€™t support transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white. Choose PNG or WebP to keep transparency.

Can I convert HEIC or GIF files?

Any image your browser can display can be converted. GIFs work but become a single still frame; HEIC usually opens only in Safari.

Will converting reduce image quality?

PNG output is lossless. JPG and WebP use a high quality setting, so any loss is usually not noticeable.
