📝 About Remove Duplicate Lines

Remove Duplicate Lines deletes repeated lines from a block of text while keeping the first occurrence of each line in its original position. After processing, the tool shows how many lines remain, so you can see at a glance how much was removed. A separate Sort lines button arranges the lines alphabetically, and an Ignore case option treats “Apple” and “apple” as the same line for both deduplication and sorting.

This is useful for cleaning email or customer lists, merging keyword lists from several sources, removing repeated entries from log output, or preparing unique values before pasting them into a spreadsheet. Sorting afterward makes the result easier to scan and compare with another list.

Lines are compared exactly as written, so a line with a trailing space is not considered identical to one without it. If your data came from different sources, run it through the Remove Spaces tool first to trim each line. Multiple blank lines are also reduced to a single blank line. All processing happens in your browser, so even large private lists are not uploaded anywhere.

❓ FAQ

Which copy of a duplicate line is kept?

The first occurrence is kept in its original position, and later repeats are removed. With Ignore case on, the first version’s capitalization is kept.

Why weren’t some duplicates removed?

Lines must match exactly, including spaces. Trim each line with the Remove Spaces tool first, or turn on Ignore case if only capitalization differs.

Does sorting happen automatically?

No. Removing duplicates keeps the original order; press Sort lines separately if you want alphabetical order.
